Prescriptions

Confused about PD  or whether you have the latest prescription ?

Your prescription must be valid, which mean that your prescription must be within 2 years. If not please book an appointment with your local optician and get an up to date prescription.

They most probably will not give your Pupillary Distance (PD) when you get your prescription, unless you convince them that it is for your sports eyewear which they do not sell in store.

If they still refuse to give your PD measurements, it is really very simple and we can help you get the accurate measurements.

If you are unsure please give us a call or email us and we can help you with this.

What is Pupillary Distance (PD)?

This measurement is used to determine where you look through the lens of your glasses and should be as accurate as possible.

Pupillary distance (PD) measures the distance between the centers of your pupils.

Measuring the PD is super easy with a ruler and some patience (plus with the help of a kind friend or partner)

What Does Average Pupillary Distance Mean?

There is some specific pupillary distance which is correct for the eyes. The average pupillary distance of an adult is between 54-74 mm; kids' are between 43-58 mm.

If the measure is above or below the range, please consult an optician or contact as at sales@eyefitt.co.uk

How To Measure Pupillary Distance Using Ruler or Card

Scale Method : The PD measurement is extremely easy with a ruler and the help of a friend. Ask a friend to measure it for you as per the image below with a ruler.

If you don't have someone that can do this for you, you could simply stand in front of a mirror, take a ruler and measure the difference between the distance between the centre of your right and left eye’s pupil.
Apart from a ruler, you can also use a measuring tape or an app on your phone.
